Emily Adams

Software Developer & AI/ML Researcher

I've learned and built many fundamental tools and processes used in software development, AI/ML research/ development, and data engineering. Check below on what I completed and feel free to play around with the simulations here that demonstrate my abilities!

Intro

I have a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from Wentworth Institute of Technology, finished in August 2026 with minors in applied mathematics and physics. Most of my career so far has been in co-ops at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. There I was able to obtain a Secret clearance required for sensitve system data.

The target is automation and efficiency. I like finding ways to improve infrastructure and scalability, building processes that would minimize the time load for operators and in accurate results.

My interest as of lately has been in AI and data engineering. I am trying to build, fine-tune, and secure open-sourced LLM models to understand machine learning better, and apply it later locally.

Work

Where I've worked

  1. Endpoint Engineer Co-Op

MIT Lincoln Laboratory · Lexington, MA

    Jan 2026 — Jun 2026

    • Evaluated technical tests on packaged third-party software before release to hundreds of domain-issued devices.
    • Examined, located, and corrected software vulnerabilities via Power BI and BigFix Console.
    • Packaged software from third-party applications and deployed it for enterprise use.
    • Developed an internal software version scanning tool to automate identification of outdated packages across enterprise-issued devices.
    • Managed multiple projects while simultaneously attending college classes.
  2. Systems Administrator Co-Op

MIT Lincoln Laboratory · Lexington, MA

    May 2025 — Dec 2025

    • Installed, configured, and administered multiple virtualization tools and services.
    • Developed Ansible playbooks for automation pipelines servicing hundreds of domain-issued machines in certificate replacement and vulnerability remediation.
    • Migrated the internal AI tools backend from raw SQL to SQLAlchemy, improving maintainability and simplifying future database migrations.
    • Refactored API endpoints and assisted the AI and Web Development team in integrating AI/LLM features via LiteLLM.
    • Developed RESTful APIs in Python and integrated CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions.
    • Assisted with maintenance of containerization services.
  3. Information Technology Co-Op

    HCA Healthcare · Portsmouth, NH

    Jan 2025 — Apr 2025

    • Provided technical support across computer systems, software, and hardware.
    • Assisted in account access provisioning via Active Directory.
    • Imaged PCs to company standards for hospital operations.
    • Maintained and organized network closets and connections across facility units.

Projects

What I've made

Open any card for the longer version description. Shows what it does, and why it was worth building in my eyes.

  • Tracks multiple assets through user-defined portfolios, so holdings spread across accounts read as a single picture instead of several.
  • Being built as a senior capstone project, which means the scope is mine to defend rather than handed down.
  • Implementing AI over the portfolio data for user recommendations, so the numbers arrive with a reading attached.
  • Python
  • React
  • TypeScript
  • Anthropic
  • SQL
  • Javascript
  • Typescript
  • Developed and deployed a full-stack goal tracking app that identifies which of a user’s goals is being neglected, using a blended recency scoring model.
  • Per-goal progress charts and consistency heat maps put the pattern on screen, so a slipping goal is visible before it is abandoned.
  • Built with React, Supabase, and Vite, deployed on Vercel.

  • Trained a LoRA adapter over Qwen2.5:3B on CoLab GPU instance, which kept the entire training loop (i.e. data, weights, checkpoints) on hardware I control.
  • Served the resulting model through Ollama so it sits behind a stable local API instead of a notebook cell.
  • Deployed that stack to a RaspberryPi as an always-on inference host, sized so the model actually fits and responds.
  • Configured secure remote access with Tailscale and SSH, so it is reachable from anywhere without exposing a public port to the internet.

  • Built to replace a manual review pass over the software inventory of lab-issued devices. A task that is easy to do and easy to fall behind on.
  • Automates identification of outdated packages so remediation effort goes to the machines that actually need it, cutting manual review time.
  • Grew out of day-to-day vulnerability work through Power BI and BigFix Console, and fed directly back into it.

Beyond

Outside the job descriptions

Homelab & self-hosting

A RaspberryPi running a fine-tuned model, stitched together with Tailscale and SSH. I would rather own the hardware than rent the endpoint. Gives me more of an understanding in infrastructure, localizing services, and improving security than relying on the cloud.

Models on small hardware

LoRA fine-tuning and local inference, the constraint of consumer GPUs and a Pi makes the engineering more interesting. Allows the opportunity for me to learn machine learning hands on, fine-tuning, and other functions in AI development.

Automating the tedious

Ansible playbooks, version scanners, packaging pipelines. Most of my favorite work has been deleting a manual process somebody dreaded and allocating their time for better tasks.

Math & Physics

Both have been a strong interest of mine since high school and am grateful to have finished my undergraduate with recognition to each. They are the reason I keep reaching for the underlying model instead of the nearest abstraction.
